Minor Projects

Transport SA undertakes many minor projects every year. Those projects may include any combination of the following types. For information or comments about a particular project please email us.

Roundabouts

Project objectives

  • reduce the number of accidents by installing roundabouts in order to improve the operation of the intersection
  • improve the operation of the intersection

Pedestrian access crossings

Project objectives

  • provide a safer means for pedestrians to cross whilst minimising delays to traffic

Turning lanes

Project objectives

  • improve traffic flow and reduce the frequency of rear end crashes
  • allow easy turning access for motorists

Overtaking lanes

Project objectives

  • lessen traffic congestion caused by slower vehicles
  • increase safety through reduced driver frustration

Road widening

Project objectives

  • widen pavement around the inside of curves and over sharp crests curve road section to allow errant vehicles to return to the trafficked lane
  • undertake roadside drainage improvements to reduce hazardous roadside dropoffs to culvert inlets/outlets and side drains
  • install safety barriers at locations deemed hazardous for vehicles leaving the road
  • provide a sealed shoulder that acts as a recovery zone from which errant vehicles can safely return to the trafficked lane
  • improve road alignment and traffic lane widths
  • modify intersections to address sight distance
  • upgrade line marking and guide posts

Dredging

Project objectives

  • maintain well defined harbours to the declared depth
  • monitoring and managing environmental impacts of marine access. To minimise the environmental effects of operations relating to the marine access
  • manage the sand bypassing process for the Coast Protection Board

Undergrounding of powerlines

Project objectives

  • underground powerlines along major roads in metropolitan Adelaide
  • increase road safety by removing Stobie Poles
  • remove unsightly concrete poles and replace with trees
  • involve Power Line Environment Committee (PLEC), Councils and Transport SA
  • the program also provides additional benefits such as tree planting and other street scaping and improved lighting

General upgrade

Project objectives

  • improve services, bus stop facilities street lighting
  • improve drainage facilities to manage run off of storm water
  • improve safety for road users and pedestrians

Painted medians

Project objectives

  • reduce the frequency of accidents
  • improve traffic flow by reducing obstructions such as cars turning
  • ensure the safety of cyclists and pedestrians
  • prevent drivers using backstreets as a thoroughfare to avoid traffic lights
