The transport network is crucial to the State’s
economy and enviable lifestyle. Transport SA is committed to providing
a transport system that is safe, accessible and efficient, while
supporting the State’s economy, tourism and trade, and having
minimal impact on the environment.

- Bakewell bridge
On 28 March 2004 Premier Mike Rann and Transport Minister Trish White announced a major $30 million re-build of the accident-prone Bakewell Bridge that links the western suburbs to the city centre.
- Adelaide Crafers
Highway
The $138 million Adelaide-Crafers Highway, completed in March
2000, is South Australia’s largest road project, providing
first-class driving conditions for heavy freight operators
and regular commuters, and is a magnificent gateway to the
city from the eastern States
- Park Terrace Pedestrian Rail Crossing
The State Government replaced the pedestrian mazes at the Park Terrace level crossing, Salisbury, with automated pedestrian gates, which close at the same time as the road boom gates.
- Port River Expressway
The new Port River Expressway will contribute to South Australia’s
economic development by providing new road, rail and bridge
connections across the Port River, linking our export enterprises
and industrial areas with key transport routes and facilities
- South Road Upgrade
The State Government has announced the first stage of a
plan to transform South Road into a continuous non-stop
route from the Southern Expressway to the Port River
Expressway - a distance of 22 kilometres.
- Northern Expressway
The Northern Expressway will involve the construction of
a new road between Gawler and Port Wakefield Road (approximately
22 kilometres) and the upgrade of nine kilometres of Port
Wakefield Road between Waterloo Corner Road and Salisbury
Highway.
- AusLink Draft Corridor Strategies
Corridor strategies are cooperative long-term plans that identify future transport needs on the corridor and the priorities for meeting those needs. Across Australia 24 corridor strategies are being developed for the AusLink National Land Transport Network to be released for public comment. The AusLink Network has replaced the National Highway as the principal road and rail system linking capital cities and major population centres. All the strategies will be ready by mid-2007.
- Mawson Connector and Transport Hub
The Mawson Connector, known as Elder Smith Road , is a two-lane connector road from Salisbury Highway to Main North Road that includes an overpass over the railway lines.
- Sturt Highway Upgrade
The Australian Government is providing significant funding of $100 million for the upgrade of the Sturt Highway, between Gawler and Nuriootpa. The upgrade will be undertaken in stages with some work starting early in 2007. The upgrade is scheduled for completion by December 2009.
- Traffic Operations
Many people take the operation of traffic lights for granted.
A state-of-the-art facility at the Traffic Control Centre (TCC)
at Norwood coordinates all management of traffic in the Adelaide
metropolitan area.
- Victoria Park
In December 2006, the State Government released its masterplan to rejuvenate Victoria Park (Bakkabakkandi).
The key objective of the masterplan is to enhance the amenity and appeal of Victoria Park for community, cultural and major event activities.
