Mobility access for people with disabilities

Transport SA has an obligation under the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 to provide fair and equal access to its facilities and services to all members of the community.

We are actively working with user groups to make sure that street crossings are safe and accessible for people with vision and physical disabilities. In collaboration with local councils, we work on strategies to upgrade traffic signal sites in the Adelaide metropolitan area with various improvements, such as audio tactile pushbuttons and accessible kerb ramps.

Through our innovative programme, we

  • foster partnerships with user groups (e.g. Guidedogs SA and Royal Society for the Blind)
  • research and develop best pedestrian safety practices
  • respond to requests to upgrade sites for disabled access.

Our engineering treatments and road safety practices enable people with disabilities to move about independently and safely.

We are using a range of improved safety treatments and devices at traffic signals and road crossings to cater for people with disabilities. These improvements benefit all pedestrians.

To find out more about the mobility access for pedestrians, please email us or phone the Metropolitan Regional Office at Norwood.
