Safe Road Use & Travel

Major contributors to death and injury resulting from road crashes in South Australia include

  • drink driving
  • speeding
  • fatigue
  • not using seatbelts and child restraints.

Your chances of having a crash significantly increase if you drive

  • with a blood alcohol level over your legal limit
  • long distances without sufficient rest breaks
  • in unfamiliar areas
  • high speeds, or at any speed which is inappropriate for the road conditions.

In rural, and particularly remote areas, road crash injuries can become more serious due to the greater time required to get help and receive medical attention.

Department for Transport, Energy & Infrastructure has developed a range of publications dealing with these issues.
