Notification of Occurrences

All accidents and incidents involving personal injury and property damage must be reported within 72 hours on the official. Notification of Occurrences Form and Notes for Completing (Online Form)

Category A occurrences involving death, serious personal injury, derailments on running line, collisions on running line, fire and explosions affecting rolling stock or rail infrastructure must be reported to the Duty Officer as soon as practicable after the incident (generally within 2 hours)

Under the Rail Safety Act 1996 all rail organisations must submit monthly statistic reports on the Incident Normalising Factors (Online Form) as soon as practicable following the end of each calendar month and not later than the 21st day of the following month.

Accreditation

The Safety Accreditation Scheme for railway owners and operators facilitates the safe operation of all private and public sector railways throughout South Australia (in accordance with the national Australian Standard AS4292 and the Rail Safety Act 1996).

Organisations wishing to own or operate rail services in South Australia must submit an Accreditation Application form.

Security

The Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure (DTEI) has put together a Transport Security Information Pack to provide information to the Rail Industry. This information pack contains a Security Self Assessment Handbook developed for, and for use by, the Rail Industry. The handbook provides a simple step-by step security risk evaluation process of rail operations and has been developed in conjunction with the Rail Safety Section of DTEI. The handbook is intended to provide an initial guide to identifying the various areas that need to be considered in the preparation and review of Security Management Plans.

Private Railway Sidings

The Rail Safety Act provides for the registration of private railway sidings. Owners of private sidings must apply for or renew registration using the Private Siding Registration Application/Renewal Form
