New roads will conform with recognised standards and follow best practices in planning, design and construction. However, we must be confident that they will deliver the necessary improvements in road safety.

Ensure designs improve safety performance
Safety audits will be carried out at the planning and design stages of all new road projects as well as after completion to ensure designs comply with the latest design and safety standards. It is easier and far more cost effective to change a line on a drawing than to remedy an unsafe feature once a road is built.
