Renewing a registration
You can register your vehicle by visiting a Registration and Licensing
Centre or Service SA Centre Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm or visit
the EZYReg
online service, phone 1300 361 021 or visiting an Australia
Post outlet.
A registration renewal notice will normally be sent to you approximately
six weeks prior to expiry of your current registration.
If you do not receive the renewal notice, either visit a Registration
and Licensing Centre or Service
SA Centre, or phone 13 10 84 during the hours 8am to 6pm Monday
to Friday and ask for an 'Application to Renew Registration and
Third Party Insurance' form. You will also need:
- registration number of your vehicle
- name and address of the registered owner
- period of registration required
- type of vehicle
- make of vehicle
- payment for the renewal fee
- evidence
of identity (in case you are asked to supply it).
Pension concessions
Customers claiming pension concessions
will need to present their concession card when renewing their vehicle
registration. This information will be verified electronically
with Centrelink/Department of Veteran Affairs. If the concession
details are confirmed, a reduced fee may apply.
Expired registration renewals
It is an offence to drive a vehicle or have a vehicle found standing
on a road while the Vehicle Registration and/or Compulsory Third
Party (Bodily) Insurance has expired. Breaches of the Motor
Vehicles Act, 1959 may result in penalties being incurred for
vehicles that are unregistered and uninsured.
From 1 June 2009 road traffic cameras can detect
unregistered vehicles. Not only are your chances of getting caught
much higher, so are the fines. View Frequently
Asked Questions of these legislative changes.
If you have simply overlooked the payment, you can quickly and
easily renew your registration.
Registration payments made up to 90 days after the expiry date
will not have the expiry date adjusted unless it is requested by
you and a higher administration
fee is paid. If you do not register your vehicle within 90 days
of the registration expiring, you will be required to surrender
your number plates.
Payments made 30 days after the expiry date will automatically
be charged a higher administration fee unless the vehicle is seasonally
registered.
