Overseas vehicle registration

If you become a resident of South Australia and wish to register a vehicle previously registered overseas the vehicle must satisfy the following requirements:

After the vehicle has been inspected, you can apply to register the vehicle at any Customer Service Centre by lodging:

• your completed 'Application for Registration and Third Party Insurance' form
• your inspection certificates
• evidence of identity will be required if you have not previously been issued a licence or registered a vehicle in South Australia .

You will then be given a registration certificate and label in your name.

The following fees may apply:

• registration fee
• third party insurance fee
• stamp duty on insurance
• stamp duty on value*
• number plate fee
• postage fee (if you request the number plates to be posted to you)
• administration fee, level 3
• Emergency Services Levy
• inspection fees.

Overseas visitor's permit

Overseas visitors travelling through South Australia with an overseas registered vehicle may apply for a overseas visitor's permit to drive the vehicle in South Australia .
