Notice to Mariners No 26 of 2002
South Australia- Gulf of St. Vincent- Investigator
Straits- Defence Trials.
Maritime operations Division of Defence, Science
and Technology are conducting a buoy based Radio Telemetry trial
in the local waters of the Investigator Strait from 3rd June to
14th June 2002.
The trials comprise laying of cables and electronic canisters and
tethering two catamaran type surface buoys to the sea floor approximately
5 nautical miles off Cape Borda in 100 metre depth of water. The
buoys will radiate RF signals to a shore based site based at Cape
Borda in the 2400MHz to 2463 MHz frequency band.
The buoys will be located as follows:
Bouy No. 1
: 35 degrees 42 mins 20 secs South
136 degees 31 mins 34 secs East
Buoy No 2:
35 degrees 40 mins 20 secs South
136 degrees 35 mins. 00 secs East.
They will be fitted with twin yellow cross/marker
reflectors and two non synchronised yellow flashing lights flashing
4-6 secs
A surface craft MRV " Ngerin" will be used as a buoy tender
as well as a deployment and recovery vessel and will remain in attendance
at the trial site for the full trial period.
Mariners are advised to keep well clear of the site when navigating
in the area.
