Notice to Mariners No 9 of 2002

SOUTH AUSTRALIA- SOUTHERN OCEAN -RAAF MISSILE FIRING EXERCISES.

Mariners are advised that the RAAF will be conducting missile firing exercises in the Southern Ocean from 18th March to 29th March 2002.
This will involve firing and jettisoning of inert air to air missile from single F/A- 18 aircraft over the southern restricted area R 281.
The inert non guided missiles (no warhead ,guidance or control systems ) will be dropped from aircraft during daylight hours only.
The inert shapes will impact the Southern ocean and hence mariners are advised to proceed with caution.
R 281 is bounded by the following Lat/Long co-ordinates.:

35 degrees 45 mins South 138 degrees 20 mins East
35 degrees 40 mins South 139 degrees 00 mins East
37 degrees 05 mins South 139 degrees 37 mins East
36 degrees 52 mins South 137 degrees 05 mins East
36 degrees 15 mins South 137 degrees 30 mins East
36 degrees 10 mins south 138 degrees 10 mins East

Navy charts affected ; Aus 34 346 444 and 780.
