Walking in Adelaide

Walking is a simple form of active transport that

  • improves your health
  • costs nothing
  • produces no greenhouse gas emissions.

If you live close to work or local facilities and walk there you do not have to worry about parking or traffic congestion and you arrive at your destination relaxed.

Events and programs that promote walking

Walk to Work Day - Friday 6 October 2006

Walk to Work Day is an annual, national event in which the community can become involved in a healthy and environmentally friendly celebration without much fuss or personal cost.

It is an initiative of the Pedestrian Council of Australia (PCA), a non-profit organisation which aims to

  • improve the safety, amenity, access and health of pedestrians in Australia
  • promote walking as an important transport mode and a healthy activity.


Walk with Care road safety program that addresses the issue of older pedestrians.
