Renewing a South Australian Driver’s
Licence
To renew your South Australian driver's licence, you will need
to complete the ‘ Application for Renewal of Driver's Licence' form,
which is posted to you approximately four to six weeks before the
expiry date of your licence.
Yearly periods of up to 10 years can be selected when obtaining
or renewing a driver's licence.
If you do not receive a renewal notice or it has been lost or destroyed,
you may complete an ‘ Application for Renewal, Replacement and Issue
of Licence/Learner's Permit' form available at any Customer
Service Centre.
Evidence of Identity must
also be produced at the time of application if you are unable to
present your driver's licence or your photograph and signature as
they are not digitally stored on the register of drivers' licences.
The appropriate fee is payable
upon renewal of your driver's licence.
Even if you apply to renew your driver's licence by mail , you
must personally attend a photo point
location. A driver's licence cannot be issued without a photograph
of the licensee.
You can also renew your South Australian driver's licence and have
your licence or permit photo taken at country post offices and
inner country post offices listed under where
to have your photo taken.
To renew your driver's licence at a post office you must:
- apply in person
- take your ‘ Application for Renewal of Driver's Licence' form
sent to you by Registration and Licensing, with the data card
attached
- produce your current licence.
If your licence has expired for more than 6 months or there are
changes to your licence details, it cannot be renewed at a post
office.
If you reside in a remote area of South Australia not serviced
by a photo point, or you are unable to attend a photo point, contact
a Customer Service Centre.
An alternative arrangement to renew your licence may be organised,
but you should act promptly to ensure continuity of your driver's
licence.
