Interstate Residents

What do you need to do?

If you have a driver's licence from another State or Territory of Australia and have moved to South Australia, you must surrender your interstate driver's licence and obtain a South Australian driver's licence within three months of becoming a resident.

Complete an Application for Surrender of Licence form and take this to any Customer Service Centre.

After you have paid the licence fee and your photo has been taken, you will be given a temporary driver's licence. Your photo licence will be posted to you within one week.

You also need to bring:

  • your interstate licence
  • evidence of identity which is proof of your identity, age, signature, and where you live
  • payment for your driver's licence
  • medical certificate if required
  • concession card if entitled.
