Probationary Conditions on a Driver’s Licence

Probationary licences are issued to people who resume driving after a disqualification that brought about the cancellation of their Driver’s Licence (unless they are required to be issued a provisional licence)

The standard Driver’s Licence is endorsed with probationary conditions. The term Probationary Conditions is prominently displayed on the front of the licence with the conditions listed on the back of the licence.

A person subject to probationary licence conditions

  • must not drive a motor vehicle or attempt to put a motor vehicle in motion on a road while there is any concentration of alcohol in their blood or the presence of THC (Cannabis) or Methylamphetamine (Speed) in their blood or oral fluid.
  • must carry licence at all times while driving a motor vehicle
  • must not incur 2 or more demerit points during the probationary licence period
  • is not able to occupy a seat in a vehicle next to a learner driver
