Safe-T-Cam Calculator Information

The Road Traffic (Driving Hours) Regulation 1999, requires that a total of 30 minutes rest is to be taken in every 5.5 hours & no more than 12 hours driving in any 24 hour period. This may vary if the driver and vehicle owner are members of or accredited in any approved Alternative Fatigue Management Scheme.

Remember: Stop - Revive - Survive

There are a number of safety strategies for drivers.

Driver Fatigue
Rest breaks are specified by driving hours regulations.
Take frequent rest breaks and appropriate days off.
Only sufficient sleep can restore the effects of fatigue.

Travel Speed
Don’t push it! Plan your journey so that you can obey all speed limits.
You will even arrive less stressed.

Remember
By complying with the regulations and taking required rest breaks you may save a life – including your own.

Travel times

The Safe-T-Cam team resurveys the prescribed travel times between Safe-T-Cam sites, heavy vehicle checking stations and road-side inspection areas on an annual basis.
The prescribed travel time is the minimum that a heavy vehicle can travel between multiple Safe-T-Cam sites at legal speed limits.
If the existing route is altered in any way, DETI will recalculate the prescribed travel time. Travel times have been determined by surveys undertaken in a sedan fitted with cruise control, calibrated speedometers, independently calibrated odometer and trip meter and a global positioning system.
To display the requirements for travelling between two Safe-T-Cam sites, choose them from the drop down lists and click on the 'Submit Query' button.

Please note: If a vehicle travels through two Safe-T-Cam sites in less than the allowable time the owner of the vehicle will receive a NOTICE TO PRODUCE requiring them to supply the driver’s details and driving records. This is NOT an expiation notice. A review of the records will commence and if an offence is found, an expiation notice may be issued at a later date.

Note
Operators and drivers obeying the statutory speed limits and taking the required rest breaks will not be penalised.
