Safe-T-Cam

Safe-T-Cam

Safe-T-Cam is an initiative of Transport SA in partnership with the New South Wales Road Traffic Authority (RTA) and the South Australian Police (SAPOL) to reduce heavy vehicle driver fatigue and prevent vehicle crashes.

Safe-T-Cam is a network of fixed data collection (camera) sites strategically placed on major arterial roads that record, verify and store information on heavy vehicle movements within South Australia.

The technology provides Transport SA Compliance Officers and SAPOL with electronic access to travel time, date and registration details of heavy vehicles throughout the State. Heavy vehicle information is automatically recorded each time a heavy vehicle passes a camera site.

In addition, fixed inspection sites at Stirling North, Bordertown, and Montieth will operate TRUCKSCAN software in use by the RTA. Safe-T-Cam and TRUCKSCAN shares data that covers both states.

By collaborating with the New South Wales RTA, Transport SA can now monitor heavy vehicles departing from interstate and entering South Australia that breach driving hours regulations.

Transport SA will also be able to provide the New South Wales RTA with information about heavy vehicles passing through or originating from South Australia.
