Environment
Transport is essential to the economic and social functioning of
our communities but vehicle use and transport infrastructure can
have negative impacts on our environment, communities and people.
Transport SA aims to provide a transport system for South Australians
that is efficient, safe and environmentally sustainable.
The following links give you more information about how transport
systems affect the environment and how Transport SA manages the
impacts.
- Air Quality & Greenhouse
One of Transport SA’s key priorities is to enhance our capacity
to reduce emissions from the transport system. Emissions from
transport contribute greenhouse gases towards the global enhanced
greenhouse effect.
- Biodiversity & Land Management
Loss of biodiversity is recognised as Australia’s most serious
environmental problem both on land and in our seas. Transport
SA aims to protect native vegetation and significant vegetation
during construction, maintenance and operation of the transport
system.
- Environmental Management at Transport
SA
Processes for managing and improving our environmental performance
are integrated into the way in which we in Transport SA go about
our business.
- Greening of Government
The Greening of Government Operations (GoGO) Framework is the South Australian Government’s commitment to strive for best practice in managing the environmental impacts of its own operations.
