The Workzone Traffic Management Training Program

The training program is targeted for anyone who wants to work on/near/adjacent to roads.

This training program provides participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to:

  • identify hazards associated with work sites requiring traffic management;
  • assess the level of risk to employees and the public;
  • implement appropriate worksite traffic management schemes (these are based on the Australian Standard 1742 Part 3, State legislation and the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act 1986 and Regulations, Road Traffic Act 1961, and Regulations; Commissioner of Highway Notice gives approval to use traffic control devices subject to persons/authorities meeting the conditions contained in this document).

The Transport Services Division approved training providers are available to deliver the Workzone Traffic Management courses.

Transport Services Division has produced a field guide for Workzone Traffic Management in South Australia to provide guidance to personnel in the application of Australian Standards 1742 Part 3 and speed limits at works on roads. This guide should be used in conjunction with the code of Technical Requirements for the Legal use of Traffic Control Devices,December 1999 and AS1742.3-2009.

Transport Services Division in conjunction with industry has produced an interactive CD-ROM, The Road to Worker Safety to help road workers understand their statutory obligations and enjoy a safe work environment.

Australian Standard AS1742.3

Standards Australia has issued a publication AS1742 of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for use throughout Australia. The Standard comes in several parts. Part 3 is called Traffic Control Devices for Works on Roads.
