Bike Ed Program

Bike Ed is a national bicycle education program provided by the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure for South Australian primary school students aged 9-13 years.

The aim is for the Bike Ed program to provide students with opportunities to:

  • Gain knowledge and understanding of the roads and traffic environment and appropriate road laws,
  • Enable the development of physical and cognitive skills, and
  • Enable the development of responsible behaviours, attitudes and decision-making skills for the safe use of bicycles both on and off the road, through participation in enjoyable learning experiences relevant to their ages and abilities.

Teachers and community members can support the sustainability of the Bike Ed program and extend their cycling knowledge skills and experience by undertaking the Bike Ed instructor training course.

Bicycle SA has been awarded the contract to deliver the Bike Ed program in SA for the next two years commencing delivery in Term 4, 2007. Bicycle SA can be contacted by phone on (08) 8232 2644 or check out their website at www.bikesa.asn.au
