Rider Safe Course
Rider Safe is a Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure compulsory motorcycle rider training course for all novice motorcyclists which teaches the basic and advanced motorcycle skills necessary on the road.
The Rider Safe course is run by experienced motorcyclists who have undergone specialised instructor training.
The course also provides the opportunity to determine your riding aptitude before purchasing a motorcycle.
Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme
From 14 November 2005 R-date licence holders (learners and riders with less than 12 months experience) are restricted to riding motorcycles that have an engine capacity of up to 660ml with a power-to-weight ratio of 150kw/t. Holders of a R-date licence issued before 14 November 2005 can ride motorcycles with an engine capacity up to 250ml or those approved under the Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme.
