About CARismaAbout CARisma
What is CARisma?
CARisma has been developed as part of the TravelSmart program and is an initiative of the South Australian Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure. TravelSmart encourages people and communities to:
  • reduce transport related greenhouse gas emissions and their reliance on the car
  • make smarter transport choices
  • increase physical activity by using active transport.
CARisma is a teaching and learning resource that explores the status of the car in our society, Your students will learn about:
  • how the car has become such a focal point in our culture
  • the impact of the car on our culture and environment
  • active travel and alternative transport modes to the car.

Who is CARisma for?

CARisma has been designed for years 6 - 10 in South Australian schooling and its content is linked with the current curriculum. CARisma Investigations are based on Constructivist Theory and use a range of pedagogical concepts and teaching tools:

  • for teachers to use in planning and teaching a unit of research about the car in our society
  • for students to independently navigate, research and complete some Investigations

Class Structure

Some of the Investigations require that individuals work alone, as well as in pairs and in groups of four.

Several Investigations provide a range of research options that, if completed by students in a group of four, give each student a choice and bring a range of learning experiences and knowledge to the group.

For continuity and clarity, establish the composition of pairs and groups at the commencement of your CARisma program.
